CPAP Therapy

What is CPAP Therapy?

The gold standard or best treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP). is the first choice treatment for all mild and moderate sleep apnea and is the only effective treatment for severe sleep apnea. With CPAP treatment, you wear a special mask attached to a CPAP machine. The CPAP machine blows a steady stream of air through the mask and into your airway. The stream of air creates pressure, which holds your airway open. This stops your airway from collapsing. Your airway stays open all night, so you can breathe properly all night — Better Sleep and Breathing for Better Health.
To get your own CPAP machine, you need a prescription from your sleep doctor following the results of your polysomnography (sleep study). You will need a referral from your family doctor or specialist in order to have a sleep study done.
The key to using CPAP therapy successfully is a goodmask fit. Your mask needs to be comfortable and wellfitting in order to prevent air leaks. When you’re choosing a mask, pick one that feels comfortable as soon as youput it on. At MediAir CPAP, we will work with you patiently to find the perfect mask. As added assurance, if for any reason you are having problems with your mask within 30 days; bring it back and we will exchange it for a brand new, more suitable mask.
